The score and parts to Alfred H. Bartles' Piano Quartet, composed between August 21 and November 5, 1967 in New York, NY.
Piano Quartet was composed for a quartet consisting of violin, Bb clarinet, cello, and piano. It was orchestrated as such to allow performance by faculty at schools which only had two string faculty members – not an uncommon situation for that time. He also rewrote the clarinet part for viola so it could be performed by a full string-piano quartet, at the request of Dr. Vernon Taylor of Southwestern University, in Memphis. Though Bartles corresponded with Boosey & Hawkes, the piece was never published.
