The Nettie Hale Rand Collection of Fine Binding and Printing was donated in 1941 at the opening of the Treasure Room in the Joint University Libraries. This collection of several hundred exemplars of the binders’ and printers’ arts were assembled an honor of Nettie Hale Rand an alumna of the university and wife of Frank C. Rand President of the Board of Trust. Among the world renowned binders represented in this 336 volume collection are Bayntun, Riviere, and Sangorski, it is particularly rich in the art of the great private pressesof England in the late 19th and 20th centuries, such as Kelmscott, Doves, Chiswick, and Gregynog , whose fine printing and illustrations were inspired by the magnificent illumined manuscripts of earlier times.
