To Come Upon a Street
Ray, Michelle (Book artist)
http://abgorham.com/
"A collaborative effort between poet, A.B. Gorham, and artist, Michelle Ray. It explores a bawdy street scene as viewed through a voyeuristic lens. The sculptural layers of letterpress 'ladies of the evening' echo the four visually and verbally complex stanzas of Gorham's work, creating a piece that is kitschy yet tender; a celebration of delicate visual smut and witty double entendre"--Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website.
An artists' book. Includes a poem attached to front pastedown in accordion-style, which opens to the left with four pages of poetry on one side and grey letterpress illustrations of a nude female figure on the recto of each page. On the right is a three-dimensional tunnel book attached to the back pastedown. The tunnel book extends outward to reveal four "window" cutouts between illustrated curtains. At each cutout is a nude woman wearing fishnet stocking tights and red stiletto heels; the figure stands smoking a cigarette and urinating. The rear illustration reveals a cityscape in the distance. Bound to thick, light pink textured paper boards with title on front and colophon on back cover.
"The text for To come upon a street was written & designed by AB Gorham. Visual design, printing & binding by Michelle Ray"--Back cover.
