A single-instance (one of a kind) artist's book made by Stephen Sidelinger, with the poem Monroe's blues, by Langston Hughes, as text.
Made from a single 72 x 56 cm. sheet of orange oaktag paper, partially cut and folded to form, in effect, ten pages (six of them effectively on double leaves). The book can be fully unfolded into the sheet's original form. The text of the poem is handwritten in paint within illustrations made using latex house paint, sumi black ink, collaged paper scraps and cutouts, and black and red adhesive tapes. The text of the poem may be read in correct sequence when the book is folded, but it and the illustrations cover one entire side of the sheet and may be viewed as a whole when the book is unfolded. The other side of the sheet is sparsely decorated with black adhesive tape and black ink. When the book is folded, only its front and back pages are from the less illustrated side of the sheet. A torn piece of white paper bearing the phrase "[This page intentionally left blank]" is collaged to the front page, and a square is cut out of the front surface and hinged with black tape, with a tab of more tape allowing the square to be manipulated like a door.
