Smoke
Perkolator Press

"Smoke is a book project about my grandfather ... who died from lung cancer in 1992"--Colophon.
The box is made from board covered in paper and is designed to resemble a pack of Salem cigarettes, with the word "Smoke" instead of "Salem" printed on its removable top. A UPC-style barcode appears on one side of the box, and near its base is printed, "WARNING: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer. It Hurts You and the People Around You." The box holds 8 rolled sheets of paper made to look like cigarettes, attached to thin wood dowels at their interior ends and held closed with brown slip-on paper bands; seven of these bear the texts of the work while the eighth serves as a colophon. The lid of the box slips securely over the protruding outer edges of the paper lining of the rest of the box.
"Letterpress printed from 12 and 14 point Centaur metal types and linoleum in an editon of three cartons (or 30 copies). Text, design, printing, and binding by Amy Pirkle of Perkolator Press, Summer 2008"--Colophon.
