An artist's book in shadowbox format. Three shaped and printed paper panels in the bottom of a gray cloth-covered clamshell box, plus printing on the back inside surface of the box, form a pseudo-three-dimensional scene of small boats in turbulent waters, with brief text printed in script on the boats. A paper fold-out enclosure glued to the interior of the box lid contains an illustrated printed sheet (20 x 23 cm., folded to 8 x 10 cm.) and an "errata" card which actually contains text wholly different from any other in the book (8 x 10 cm.). An illustrated title label is glued to the cover of the box.

"Images and text created with photopolymer plates. Printed on Somerset Book papers and museum board"--Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed June 12, 2013.

"Three Ships is an archive and travel shrine assembled in memory of the life boats, Stancomb Wills, Dudley Docker and James Caird; Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic stash of Rare and old Highland malt whiskey; safety and foolishness. It is an exploration in mnemonic devices and the relationship between time, memory and seeing. The title ... is taken from An Exercise for Kurt Johannessen (2010), by permission of the author, Sarah Bodman. This edition was created as part of the BookArtObject Edition Four portfolio"--Artist's statement from Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed June 12, 2013.
