An artist's book designed as a guessing game. Each double-leaf contains a set of abstracted colors or a mascot that correspond to a southeastern university. These illustrations are posed to the viewer as a challenge to guess both the correct university and the famous artist's style that was mimicked in its design. The first few leaves contain instructions, including a pocket with a loose paper with "hints" for guessing correctly. Bound accordion-style to red fabric-covered boards with an inset panel with title on front cover.
"This accordion-fold book was produced in the winter of 2013-2014 by Ashley L. Schick as Capybara Press. The images were hand drawn and then converted into digital renderings. The colors are based on each university's style guide. The book was giclee printed on Epson Enhanced Matte Paper on an HP Z3100 printer"--Colophon.
Artist's statement: "Anytime I see the colors orange and blue, I don't think of their complementary status first, but of UF's school colors. The specific colors of university teams, alma maters, and hometown favorites are ingrained in even the student with the least school spirit. Away from the stadium in the lecture hall, students of art history learn to recognize the stylistic fingerprint of their favorite artists through hours of slide lectures or museum trips. This artist's book blends these two seemingly disparate arenas of football and fine art. Each image was inspired by a southeastern university team's official colors and the signature style of a particular artist.
