A single-instance (one of a kind) artist's book in the form of a Jacob's ladder toy. Six paper-covered wooden blocks are held together by brown ribbon. When opened, the construction measures 44 x 18 cm. The top block has a brief text handwritten twice so that it may be read when the board is rotated. The other text, 30 separate words, is handwritten entirely on the ribbon. On one side, each block features an abstract whorl pattern in pink, blue and green, while the other side is all green, except for the top board, on which are glued two panels of the whorl-patterned paper. The book is laid in a matching wrapper of two boards with a paper spine and a ribbon and bone clasp closure. The title is handwritten on the wrapper. The name of the publisher and date are handwritten on the bottom block of the book.

"Wooden blocks covered with Caspari (green) and Bertini (gold-accented print) papers, grosgrain ribbon, metallic pen for handwritten text"--Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed Feb. 10, 2014.
"As I handled a traditional wooden toy called a Jacob's ladder and watched the panels flip, the theme of 'change and discovery' came to mind for this book. As the book is flipped so that the panels turn, the papers' patterns suggest the theme; and the words on the ribbons, which weave around and connect the panels, address the theme both directly and through their movement, as they shift, disappear, and reemerge"--Artist's statement on Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed Feb. 10, 2014.
