A single-instance (one of a kind) artist's book in an unusual variation on fan book structure. The "leaves" are 24 glassine envelopes which contain folded papers bearing ink designs, possibly calligraphic. English words in both Roman characters and Morse code are attached to the papers to form the text. One word is visible through either side of each envelope; read successively, they form a passage from Laozi's Dao de jing (i.e. Lao-tzu's Tao te ching), as translated by Raymond Bernard Blakney and published in 1955. Loose, small red paper shapes move freely within the envelopes. The envelopes are bound in red and black paper-covered museum board covers by a single metal ring in one corner, with a black Irish linen thread tie closure at the opposite corner (a similar thread is also attached to the ring). The book's title is on a paper slip inset on front board.
