Rosenzweig was raised in a secular Jewish home in Kassel, Germany. His renewed connection with Judaism as an adult led to a career in Jewish adult education that emphasized Jewish religious knowledge. In 1920, he was appointed director of the Freies Juedisches Lehrhaus in Frankfurt on the Main. Two years later he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral scherosis (ALS). He continued to be productive until his death in 1929.
