Sky and Earth: Variable Landscape
Publication: 1973
The influence of place has played a large role in the work of artist Claire Van Vliet, who moved to rural Vermont in 1966 and founded Janus Press. Here, Van Vliet allows viewers to create their own “landscape” by combining unbound die–cut colored Navajo paper and acetate. Artists' books often push at the boundaries of what we call a book in their structure, materials and purpose. In Earth and Sky, Van Vliet asks viewers to rethink their definition of the form.
